Project Description

Stress can include feeling wound-up and tense due to a situation where you feel overwhelmed.

Not Always Negative

Not all stress is bad.

Some stress can lead you to complete tasks you didn’t think you could.

However, if stress is ongoing, it can have a detrimental impact on your physical and mental health.

Effects of Stress

When you are feeling stressed, your nervous system can start to release cortisol and adrenaline hormones leading to an increase in your heart rate, blood pressure and muscle tension.  You may also start sweating and your breathing may get faster.

When you are experiencing these symptoms, it can be a sign of acute stress.

Acute Stress

If these symptoms persist, they may lead to heart palpitations, fatigue, sleep issues and a weakened immune system. You may also experience thoughts of worry, fear, helplessness and difficulty concentrating.

Support and Help: Counselling, combined with restorative yoga and mindfulness based therapies have been found to be helpful in supporting people who are experiencing stress.
